Tell me about Gallstones??

GALLSTONES are stones or lumps that develop in the gallbladder or bile duct when substances in there harden.

There are two main types of gallstones:

Cholesterol gallstones- these may form if there will excess cholesterol in the bile.They are the main type of gallstones in the UK and the USA.

Pigment Gallstones- These form when the bile has too much bile has excess bilirubin.They are more common among patients who have liver diseases, infected bile tubes or blood disorders,such as sickle-cell anemia n all.

CAUSES OF GALLSTONES :-

Experts are still not completely sure about  why some people develop a chemical imbalance in their gallbladder which causes gallstones,while others do not.However,We do know that gallstones are more common among:

Being Overweight or Obese,Eating a diet that’s high in fat or cholesterol,Rapid weight loss within a short period of time,Eating diet that’s high in fiber,Having diabetes mellitus are the main causes of Gallstones.

SYMPTOMS OF GALLSTONES :- Gallstones may cause no signs or symptoms.If  a gallstones lodges in a duct and causes a blockage,signs and symptoms may result,such as:- Sudden and rapidly starts intensifying pain in the upper right portion of your abdomen and just below your breastbone,Back pain between your shoulder blades,Pain in your right shoulder is  the main symptoms of Gallstones.

Other Symptoms are:  In a small number of people, gallstones can cause more serious problem is that if they obstruct the flow of bile for longer period or move into other organs (such as the pancreas or small bowel). If it happens, you may develop: A High temperature of 100.4F or above,More persistent pain,A rapid heartbeat,Yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes,itchy skin,diarrhoea,chills or shivering attacks are other symptoms.

TREATMENT OF GALLSTONES:- Treatment options for gallstones include:

SURGERY TO REMOVE THE GALLBLADDER: Your doctor may recommend surgery to remove your gallbladder,since gallstones frequently reoccur.Once your gallbladder has been removed,bile start flows directly from your liver into your small intestine,rather than being stored in your gallbladder.You don’t need your gallbladder to live,and gallbladder removal doesn’t affect your ability to digest food,but it can cause diarrhoea,which is usually temprary.

MEDICATIONS TO DISSOLVE GALLSTONES: Medications you take by mouth may help dissolve gallstones.it can take months,years or whole life of treatment to dissolve your gallstones in this way.Sometimes medications don’t works.Medications for gallstone aren’t commonly used and are reserved for people who can’t undergo surgery.
