WHAT IS TRISMUS :-
Trismus, also called Lockjaw, is reduced opening of the jaws.It may be caused by spasm of the muscles of mastication or a variety of other causes.Temporary trismus occurs musch more frequetnly than permanent trismus.It is known to interfere with eating, speaking and maintaining proper oral hygiene.
CAUSES OF TRISMUS :-
The most common causes of Trismus is :- An impacted molar,Removal of wisdom teeth,Removal of the tonsils and the less causes of trismus is :- Radiation therapy to the face and neck, Tetanus an acute infection from bacteria that usually enter in the body through the wound, Myositis Muscle inflammation,Jaw nerve damage,Poor oral hygiene,Tumors or Cancer,Trauma to the jaw area,Diseases like lupus and scleroderma.

SYMPTOMS OF TRISMUS:-
Symptoms of trismus include:- Increased jaw pain,Inability to open the jaw,Difficulty in Chewing,Talking,Breathing,Brushing or flossing your teeth, A spasm or tight sensation when attempting to open the mouth.

TREATMENT OF TRISMUS :-
In these cases it is usually the medial pterygoid or the buccinator muscles.Oral surgery procedures is the extraction of lower molar teeth, may cause trismus as a result either of inflammation to the muscles of mastication or direct trauma to the TMJ.

Treatment of trismus varies depends on the aetiological factor.Some difficulties in opening the jaw  on the day following dental treatment in which is a superior alveolar or inferior alveolar nerve block was administered is frequently encountered. The degree of discomfort and dysfunction varies, but it is usually mild.
